Data Protection

Living Individuals

ezeTree automatically protects the privacy of living family members:

  • For Non-Logged-In Users: Living individuals' full names and birth dates are hidden, showing only a "PRIVATE" badge
  • For Logged-In Family Members: Full information is available to authenticated users
  • Automatic Detection: The system automatically determines living status based on dates and relationships
Deceased Individuals

Information about deceased ancestors (died over 110 years ago or with a recorded death date) is visible to all users, preserving family history for educational and genealogical purposes.

Data Collection

We collect and store:

  • Account Information: Email, password (encrypted), role, and profile details
  • Family Tree Data: Names, dates, relationships, events, and notes you add to the tree
  • Media Files: Photos and documents you upload
  • Activity Logs: Actions performed for security and audit purposes

Data Usage

Your data is used to:

  • Provide family tree management services
  • Enable collaboration with other family members
  • Generate statistics and visualizations
  • Send notifications (if enabled in your preferences)
  • Maintain system security and integrity

Data Sharing

We DO NOT sell or share your data with third parties.

Data visibility within the system:

  • Administrators: Have full access to manage the system
  • Family Members: See data based on their role (Admin, Manager, Editor, Member, Viewer)
  • Public Visitors: See limited information (deceased individuals and statistics only)

Data Security

We implement security measures including:

  • Password Encryption: All passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms
  • CSRF Protection: Protection against cross-site request forgery attacks
  • Rate Limiting: Protection against brute force attacks
  • Activity Logging: All significant actions are logged for security auditing

Your Rights

ezeTree uses essential cookies to:

GEDCOM Data

When importing GEDCOM files:

  • Data is parsed and stored securely in our database
  • Original GEDCOM files are stored for backup purposes
  • You can export your data at any time in standard GEDCOM format
  • Privacy rules are applied automatically after import
